Making the World Safer for LGBTI Communities
RFF is a movement that aims to secure inclusion and affirmation for LGBTI people around the world by ending religious-based homophobia and transphobia.
At Rainbow Faith & Freedom, we believe a person’s religious beliefs are part of their intersectional identity, which means that a person has a right to freedom of religion and freedom from religion. Whether a person of faith or not, LGBTI people are not safe if religious-based homophobia and transphobia are not directly addressed.
For too long, the fight for LGBTI human rights and safety has either avoided or ignored the harm of religious-based homophobia and transphobia. When LGBTI advocacy has addressed religion, it has not led to much change in religious communities, organizations, or institutions that espouse hate and discrimination toward LGBTI people and their allies.
Because of this, Rainbow Faith and Freedom believe that a religious problem requires a religious response. That is why RFF engages places of worship, faith-based education, religious-affiliated health care institutions, and families of faith directly to confront religious-based homophobia and transphobia with the goal of making the world a safer place for LGBTQI people and their allies.

How We Create Change
Rainbow Faith and Freedom is focused on three streams of activity to address religious-based LGBTI discrimination.
International Partnerships
& Programming
We work with social justice organizations worldwide and support their efforts to make the world safer for LGBTI people by providing them with knowledge, resources, and skills to reduce the presence and harms of religious-based homophobia and transphobia.
Canadian Programming
We develop and deliver educational and community-based programs for places of worship, faith-based schools and universities, religiously affiliated healthcare institutions, and families of faith. These programs support the inclusion of LGBTI people and their families through faith-affirming perspectives.
Faith-Based Resources
We develop and disseminates faith-based resources to promote acceptance and inclusiveness of LGBTI people and their allies from faith-affirming perspectives.
Our Learning Tools & Resources
Rainbow Faith and Freedom offers a wide range of resources designed to confront and dismantle religious-based discrimination against LGBTI individuals and their allies. These resources include faith-based educational materials, research reports, and multimedia content aimed at fostering inclusivity and understanding.
These resources collectively empower both individuals and faith communities to actively engage in creating safer, more inclusive spaces for LGBTI people of faith and their allies.

Affirming Inclusion in Education
Ongoing research on religious-based homophobia and transphobia in faith-based education will guide the development of a program to support GSAs, instrumental organizations that make schools safer for 2SLGBTQ+ students and their allies.

Ongoing research that examines the subtle but serious barriers in senior care faced by many 2SLGBTQ+ seniors will inform a program that helps staffs build the skills they need to create safer, more inclusive spaces for our community’s elders.
